In the beginning of the 90’s copper was the key word on every telecommunication companies lips; developing new transmission systems for the existing data, telephone and video infrastruc-ture based on fiber optic cable was considered a niche market.
Now, some 15 years later, data, voice and video transmission systems providing high-bandwidth, crystal clear reception over fiber optic cables are a must in the catalogue of every self-respecting telecommunication company.
Fiber-optic communication systems have revolutionized the telecommunication industry and played a major role in the advent of the Information age. Because of its advantage over electrical transmission, the use of optical fiber has largely replaced copper wire communications in core networks in the developed world. Jamaica is no exception.
